... Wir haben dann noch ewig wegen der genauen Wegbeschreibung rumtelefoniert und sind dann einfach das Risiko eingegangen und auf eigene Faust losgefahren. Schon während der ganzen Fahrt waren mir kleine Omnibusse aufgefallen, die zum Teil grotesk voll waren und überall, wo jemand am Straßenrand stand (auch an der Autobahn) anhielten und den Fahrgast aufnahmen. Der Verkehr wurde dann in der Tat immer dichter: die Autobahn war zum Teil achtspurig und total überflutet von Autos aller Art (uralte Lastwagen, die erwähnten vielen kleinen Omnibusse, schnellste deutsche Limousinen usw.). Aber die Atmosphäre war nicht aggressiv ...

"More democracy through direct democracy"
When the city-state of Hamburg implemented direct democracy, it didn’t look like a success story at the beginning. The thresholds seemed out of reach. Nevertheless, some idealists from Mehr Demokratie e.V. started the first initiative – and didn’t give up for twelf years. Due to direct democracy, Hamburg – after a long political struggle – has an electoral law that increases citizens’ influence on elections. Now citizens in Hamburg can chose, which politician would represent them – not just a party. It was an initiative, that forced a referendum about better regulations on direct democracy and nowadays parliament and the government have to obey the decisions made by the people – that was not taken for granted all the time.
Dr. Manfred Bauer and Angelika Gardiner are going to share their experiences with us and tell us, what we can learn from Hamburg.

... Was allen noch in Istanbul aufgefallen ist: daß wir keine Ahnung hatten! Bei mir ist jedenfalls das Interesse geweckt worden, mich zu Hause noch einmal intensiv mit dieser Stadt, ihrer Geschichte und mit der Türkei zu beschäftigen. Ich bin übrigens schon mit dem Bewußtsein meiner Unwissenheit nach Istanbul gefahren – um zu lernen.
Wir sind mit dem OMNIBUS an zwei jeweils traumhaft gelegenen Universitäten gewesen und auf ein lebhaftes Interesse gestoßen ...
